BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit police are on the lookout for individuals who fled the scene of a double shooting early Saturday morning, according to a department news release.
The release said patrolling officers heard shots fired in near Eighth Street and Euclid Avenue in Beloit, where they found two victims, a 29-year-old Beloit man and a 19-year-old Rockford woman. The man was shot in the buttocks and the woman was shot in the head, police said.
Both are expected to survive, according to the release.
Police said the assailants attempted to flee in a car, but lost control of it while attempting to take the Interstate 39/90 on-ramp from Milwaukee. They were eventually able to get onto a ramp to westbound Interstate 43, then left the car and fled on foot into a heavily wooded area.
As of Saturday afternoon, officials said they have not apprehended anyone.
Officials said a citizen reported a discarded firearm on the ground near a spotting of the assailants' vehicles. While officials say they are pursuing leads in the case, as of now, they have not released names or information for any individuals.
Police said a disturbance likely led to an altercation, leading to the shots being fired. Police believe there were multiple shooters involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
