MADISON, Wis. - Crews will start construction to expand Interstate 39/90 northbound between Edgerton and Madison this week, according to a release.
The project is between East Church Road north of the Highway 51 interchange and County Road AB south of Madison, officials said.
Nighttime single-lane closures are expected during the first month of construction and will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday, according to the release. During the closures, traffic shifts are anticipated to accommodate future traffic lanes.
By early April, all interstate traffic will shift onto the southbound lanes via crossovers, while the adjacent 10-mile interstate section is reconstructed and expanded, officials said. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction, with northbound and southbound traffic separated by a median barrier wall.
During construction, all ramps will remain open at the County Road N interchange, but occasional nighttime ramp closures may occur, according to the release.
Local roads under the interstate are anticipated to be closed during the construction season for bridge work, officials said.
