The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has confirmed a second pediatric flu death in the state.
Health officials said the child was from southern Wisconsin.
“This is a tragedy,” said DHS Influenza Surveillance Coordinator Tom Haupt. “Any influenza death is a tragedy, especially a child, and we want to offer our sympathies to the family and relatives of this particular child.”
There have now been 31 flu deaths in the state this year.
DHS has noted a significant increase in the flu, as 100 cases of hospitalizations have been confirmed Thursday alone.
