Father shot son in apparent Madison murder-suicide

MADISON, Wis. - The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday released the names of the father and son involved in what officials believe was a murder-suicide.

Officials said the homicide victim in the incident Sunday in the 600 block of Meadowlark Drive was Andrew T. Thorland, 33, of Madison.

Thorland was transported to a local hospital but died soon after arriving. Officials said Thorland's death was the result of a homicidal firearm-related trauma, according to a preliminary autopsy report.

The suspect in Thorland's shooting is believed to be Timothy A. Thorland, 58, of Madison. Timothy Thorland, Andrew Thorland's father, was transported to a local hospital with an apparent self-inflicted firearm injury, but died shortly after arrival.

Officials said his death was the result of firearm-related injuries, according to a preliminary autopsy report.

Both deaths are under investigation by the Madison Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the east side homeat 6:07 a.m. Sunday. At the scene they found a father and his adult son with gunshot wounds at the house where they both lived.
