JT Roach, an Edgewood High School and University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate, won Wednesday night's season finale of NBC's "Songland."

"Songland" is a songwriting competition, where songwriters have a chance to pitch songs for famous celebrities to sing.

In Wednesday's season finale, Roach and other contestants pitched their songs for OneRepublic, which is known for songs like "Apologize," "Stop and Stare," and "Counting Stars."

First, Roach performed his original song called "Somebody to Love."

Then they chose his song over the other contestants, meaning they would perform it live at a concert. That venue was Red Rocks in Colorado.

Roach has been living in California for a couple of years to pursue his music career as a songwriter

Members of OneRepublic said they have never taken an outside song for as long as the band has existed.
