MADISON, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Madison ranks No. 1 among large schools on the Peace Corps 2017 Top Volunteer-Producing College and Universities list, according to a release.

There are 87 Badgers currently volunteering worldwide, officials said. This is the third year UW-Madison ranked among the top five large universities and colleges. In 2016, UW ranked No. 2.

"Public service is a proud tradition at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and our partnership with the Peace Corps is one long-standing example," Chancellor Rebecca Blank said in the release. "Not only do our graduates make meaningful contributions in communities around the world, they gain valuable knowledge and leadership skills that will remain with them for a lifetime. It is truly the Wisconsin Idea in action."

Since 1961, when the Peace Corps was founded, 3,239 UW-Madison alumni have traveled abroad to serve as volunteers, making UW the No. 2 all-time producer of Peace Corps volunteers, according to the release.
