FOX47 NEWS - Hoping For A Miracle
Like most tailgate parties across the state today, there was plenty of cheering at the Park Plaza in Baraboo.
But today's event was more than just a chance to catch the payoff bound Packers, for many it was a time to -reaquaint. 7-year-old Kelly Andrews was ecstatic to see staff members and friends from the Boys and Girls club today. She says she hasn't seen them since the club closed in October.
Well I was really sad because I really like it there and I love the staff, Andrews says.
Parents and community members put on the tailgate party in hopes to raise more money to re-open the club,
And today they got some help from a former packer superstar.
The Boys and Girls club is proud of helping the youth and prides itself on helping the kids and it's also like I said, a safe haven for where the kids have to go when they have no where else to go, says former Packer Gilbert Brown.
Brown signed pictures, helmets and footballs for fans at todays event. Along with the packer great were other attractions like live and silent auctions, food and activities for the kids.
Board member Jeff Mauer says all the support they've received so far has given them a second wind.
We feel rejuvenated. It was really hard at first to see the kids and parents reactions when we had to close, but I feel really encouraged when you see this kind of a turn out and all the work the parents have done to put this on, Mauer says.
The club has raised more than 100-thousand dollars, But they still need around 60-thousand dollars more to re-open by the end of January.
Still community members remain optimistic that in this season of giving, their holiday wish can come true.
