Dane County Police, Fire, and EMS had the chance to meet with the public today at National Night Out in Mount Vernon.

A lot of hardware was on display at Forest of Fame park, beginning with the landing of an army blackhawk helicopter staffed by Dane County personnel.

National Night Out gives cops, firefighters, and emergency workers the chance to meet each other, and build strong neighborhood camaraderie. Sheriff's deputies say so much of their work with the public involves responding to emergencies, so it's fun to come to an event like this, and interact with people in the community on a positive note.

We work these areas and it's really fun for us to get to know the families and the kids, and just sit down and talk with them, said Josalyn Longley, community deputy with Dane County.

The sheriff's department also showed off its new fleet of Dodge Chargers, which will be used to patrol traffic. A number of specialized units put on displays, including the bike patrol, Beltline truck, and crime scene investigation unit.

This is National Night Out's 25th anniversary. Dane County also held an event in the Town of Burke.
