MADISON (WMSN) -- It may seem odd at first, but 3-year-old Henry loves visiting his chiropractor. We sat in on Henry's visit with his mom and 1-year-old sister Sophie.

Within minutes, Chiropractor Dr. Heather Olson discovered his hip was out of place.

"What were doing is were resetting that joint cause each joint has all these computer chips that attach to the brain and let the brain know exactly what the body's doing and what the tension is like and when you place and adjustment your resetting all those receptors. I see a lot of birth trauma, I see a lot of ear infections I've seen add kids autistic," said Dr. Heather Olson.

Henry's mom brings her little boy and 1-year-old daughter Sophie to the chiropractor once a month, as a preventative measure, to make sure their bones are strong and everything is growing in the right place.

"I did just making sure that the body is as healthy as it possibly can be so even dealing with little things like colds," said mother Carol Lebovic.

Dr. Heather says the spine plays a big role in our immune system.

"They love Dr. Heather I feel they're maintaining their health and their really great and I think chiropractic has really helped with that and since they've come in they haven't been diagnosed with any disorders," said Carol.

Dr. Heather says she's much more gentle when working with children, because their skeletal system is different than adults.

"They slowly build up to 18 years bone bone bone and that stops at 18 years so its a completely different process than an adult an adult takes pressure a lot of work a child is real specific and you have to know how to work with peads but its a completely different process," said Dr. Heather.

She says she applies light pressure, sometimes as little as the pressure of touching your eyelid.

"Like you saw with Henry, sometimes its just two thumbs it could be two fingers to be able to get that adjustment in place," said Dr. Heather.

Dr. Heather says starting young is never a bad thing.

"So when I see adults and I see they have spine defects and decay I know about 20 years ago that spinal stress created that so you'd be stopping that process in your child," said Dr. Heather.

"I just knew we could stay ahead of the game with some issues if we kept ourselves as healthy as they could be," said Carol.

Dr. Heather adds if you are interested in taking your child to a chiropractor - make sure they are certified in pediatric care.
