MADISON (WMSN) -- If you are one of millions who watched tonight's American Idol Finale, you can understand how music brings people together.

The father, Michael Gomoll says the idea started in his basement.

Now he has a CD full of Grammy nominated artists, including Tim Easton, Tracy Bonham and the Crash Test Dummies.

"Whether it was videos we watched or it was Teletubbies coming on he would grab everybody and you had to dance with him," said Mike Gomoll, Joey's father.

It's hard not to find a picture of Mike Gomoll's son Joey smiling.

His little boy went through a lot, suffering from Epilepsy.

"We had 4 years of seizures about every 3 days or so was Joey's pattern," said Mike Gomoll, Joey's father.

There are 40 different types of Epilepsy, Joey's was Dravet's Syndrome.

"Intense shaking and he would fall and be stiff and rigid and shake, last 2 to 3 minutes sometimes," said Mike Gomoll, Joey's Father.

"Tried to make it as normal as possible, unfortunately a lot of things kids do are triggers of seizures, lack of sleep, getting excited getting too hot, are the things kids do 4 to 5 years old," said Gomoll.

Last March, Joey passed away just shy of his 5th birthday.

To get through his loss, Mike says he poured himself into creating a CD.

"Unfortunately one of the delays for Joe was that he couldn't speak. One of the ways he did interact through his world was through music," said Gomoll.

Mike says he began contacting artists with his story through e-mail, to create an album in his son's memory to raise money for Epilepsy research, and to help other families like his living with the disorder.

"Within a few hours and they didn't know men from adam right? They said yeah your story hits we'd like to help, what the heck lets start," said Gomoll

Within a few weeks 30 artists joined the fundraiser albums. One for children, another for adults.

Joey's brother and sister say, it's a great way to remember him.

"When his favorite TV shows were on he danced to that," said Julia Gomoll, Joey's sister.

"He really liked music and was really happy," said Sam Gomoll, Joey's brother.

Mike says the money will go to support the Epilepsy Foundation through his organization, the Joseph Gomoll Foundation, Inc.
