FOX 47 - Health News

MADISON (WMSN) -- Americans are living longer than ever.

The current life expectancy in the U.S. is 78 years old, that's ten years longer than the life expectancy was in the 50's.

Helen Fahey, Mary Fran Cieciorka, and Helen Warriner are all in their 90's, but they stay active, physically and mentally.

Terri Patwell, Dean Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, says it's important for people to stay engaged as they get older, as well as living a healthy life.

"Quitting smoking, eating balanced meals, fresh foods, having some level of spirituality (contribute to living longer)."

Patwell adds, "You do need to spend a half hour to an hour stimulating your brain by reading, crossword puzzles."

Join us for part two Part Two of Living Longer Thursday night, as we look at the impact of more people living longer, on the health care system.Living Longer
