Madison- It's official. Danny O'Brien has been named the starting quarterback for Wisconsin's season opener against Northern Iowa (Sept. 1). O'Brien, listed as a redshirt junior, transfered from Maryland after finishing his undergraduate degree early.
Many outside the program assumed O'Brien had the starting job when he showed up on campus, but UW head coach Bret Bielema denied that. Monday, he said O'Brien has made the fewest mistakes/turnovers in practice, and he has a great ability to make something out of nothing during the course of a play.
O'Brien said he's honored to be named the starting QB, but he has to focus on getting the team ready for the regular season.
