MADISON, Wis. - Former
Wisconsin state Assembly Speaker Scott Jensen is taking on a more public role
in the debate over school accountability.
Jensen was convicted
of three felonies for misconduct in office in 2006 but had them overturned in
2010. He started lobbying for school choice advocates in 2011.
before the Assembly Education Committee on Wednesday is the first time he's
testified in the Legislature since he left office.
Jensen said Friday he
decided to talk now because he wanted to show how serious the American
Federation for Children was in finding an accountability bill that can pass.
Common Cause Wisconsin
director Jay Heck says Jensen fundamentally undermined the public's confidence
in clean government but his presence in the Capitol may not bother those who
don't remember the details.
