Troop, 26, is a machine operator at a General Electric plant in Waukesha. He got his job through an accelerated job-training program, the sort of program Obama promoted during a speech Thursday in Waukesha.
As Troop introduced Obama, he said he felt as though he'd won the Super Bowl of life. He said meeting the president was "remarkable," and he's grateful for the training program that enabled him to get a job that supports his family of four.
He said the program condensed about seven months of training into three months.
Obama promoted his ideas for economic growth in his speech at General Electric.
Focusing on themes from his State of the Union address earlier this week, Obama talked about training workers for in-demand jobs, something for which he said the GE plant has had success with its regional training program.
Obama earlier toured the gas engines plant, took off his suit coat and put on safety glasses as he was briefed by two GE workers on an engine part.
The visit comes as Obama's approval rating in Wisconsin has sunk to its lowest level in two years. A poll released this week said his approval rating among Wisconsin voters is 44 percent, down from 49 percent in October.
