FITCHBURG, Wis. - Names of those involved in an incident that led to a double homicide investigation Friday, have been released.
Fitchburg police identified Andrew Steele, 39, as the suspect. The Medical examiner also released the names of the victims as Kacee Tollfesbol, 38, of Lake Elmo, Minnesota and Ashlee Steele, 39, of Fitchburg. A preliminary autopsy report says the two women were the victims of "homicidal violence".
Lt. Todd Stetzer said Saturday afternoon that it appeared there were no additional people in the residence at 3038 Yarmouth Greenway Dr. Friday when police found one of the women's bodies and took a man into custody. A second victim was taken to a hospital and later died.
Police were called to the home at 12:15 p.m. Residents were told to avoid the 3000 block of Yarmouth and Bantry Lane as police searched for a man possibly armed with a gun. Three hours later, authorities said the scene was secure and that residents could resume normal activities.
Police say Andrew Steele was taken to the hospital Friday, but did not provide information about the nature of his injuries.
Police also would not say if the victims and the suspect were related.
Fitchburg Mayor Shawn Pfaff called the homicides horrific but said that the incident was isolated and the community is safe.
"I cannot express the deep sadness of what occurred yesterday," Pfaff said. "Fitchburg is a safe community, and this is an isolated incident, and we know moving forward our law enforcement does a great job."
The incident remains under investigation by the Fitchburg Police Department and the Medical examiner's Office.
