Madison - Wisconsin has hired Jon Budmayr as quarterbacks coach, UW head coach Paul Chryst announced Thursday. Budmayr has spent the last three seasons at his alma mater, serving as a graduate assistant in 2015 and an offensive quality control assistant the last two years.

"I'm extremely appreciative and excited for this opportunity to be at Wisconsin and continue this journey of coaching," Budmayr said. "Having played for, and now worked with, Coach Chryst for a number of years, I've gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about the nuances that go into coaching the position and all the detail that is involved."

"Jon is a tremendous young coach," Chryst said. "He excels as a teacher and has great knowledge of our offense and quarterback play. He truly cares about the young men in this program. I am excited to add him to our coaching staff."

Budmayr returned to Wisconsin after spending a year as an offensive graduate assistant at Pittsburgh under Chryst. Injuries derailed Budmayr's playing career after the 2010 season, when he lettered for the UW team that posted an 11-2 record and won the Big Ten title, but he went on to serve as a student assistant coach for the Badgers in 2012 and 2013.

A native of Woodstock, Illinois, Budmayr earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from UW in 2013. He and his wife, Kaitlyn, were married in the summer of 2016.
