Madison- Former Wisconsin standout Roy Boone has something good cooking in the Madison hoops community. This summer marks the third run of the Roy Boone Pro-Am basketball tournament.
Starting in 2015, Boone invited former Madison-area high school stars and Wisconsin players to play a six-team, eight week tournament at Madison East high school and Madison College.
Boone, a Madison East graduate who helped lead Wisconsin to the 2000 Final Four, never gets tired tired of seeing the event get bigger and bigger.
"What makes it really special for me is that I get to have this event and have these guys come back to where I played high school and where it all started for me," Boone said Thursday night. "That even makes it more special for me."
Wesley Matthews starred at Madison Memorial and Marquette before carving his own path to the NBA. He's entering his third season with the Dallas Mavericks, he always has time to hoop back home.
"Every time I was in town I would come and play. This is my home. Here and Dallas. These are my homes. I'm here as often as I can be," Matthews said. "All my family is still here. My friends are still here. So, it's awesome."
The championship game is August 5th at Madison College.
