Madison- Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst got his first coaching job in 1991. He was hired as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Riders of the World League, and the man who hired him was Mike Riley.
Riley moved on to head coach positions at Oregon St. and with the San Diego Chargers, and he had Chryst on his staff at both places. The NCAA and NFL might've been higher profile jobs than the World League, but the Riders job itself took a back seat to no one.
"May have been the best job I ever had. We had a great staff. Got to coach really neat players," Chryst said Thursday. "And I was just getting started. So you talk about impactful. Ever since then I think every one of my jobs- I've been really fortunate to have and enjoy them."
The 9th-ranked Badgers and Huskers kick off Saturday night at 7 o'clock in Lincoln, NE. Nebraska has sold out 357 consecutive home games, but the program is just 1-5 versus Wisconsin since joining the Big Ten.
