MADISON - Badgers defensive lineman Olive Sagapolu figured 65 was a number for someone on offense, so he changed to uniform number 99 for the 2017 season.
J.J. Watt made number 99 famous as a defensive lineman at Wisconsin and in the NFL with the Houston Texans and Sagapolu hopes he can have a Watt-like season with the new number.
"I feel that 99 was a big number especially here at the University of Wisconsin," Sagapolu said. "So the one thing that I had to do was just try to live up-- come in each day with the will, with the mind to work and a will to get better every day."
Sagapolu is part of a veteran defensive line rotation that includes Chikwe Obasih, Connor Sheehy and Alec James.
Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard expects big things from that group.
"Now they are the veteran group, they are the guys with the experience," Leonhard said.
"We have some big playmakers in there - be that playmaker , don't always be the unselfish guy, you know it's trying to get that across to them.. They're good enough that they can do their job and more."
