Spring Game evolution

Madison- Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst ('88) didn't get to watch his spring football game on the Big Ten Network- or any network. Spring football has evolved into a made-for-TV event that means in some cases- this year Wisconsin's- moving the game to Friday night.

The Wisconsin athletic department has changed the line-up of events surrounding the spring game, including pairing it with the popular Crazylegs 8K run. They also have a Badger Kids' Sports Fair that kicks off before the actual game.

Despite the changes, Chryst always has fun taking a walk down memory lane."

"I thought it was a bigger thing when I was playing. We had Crazylegs. Really the Spring Game was just halftime before Butch's Bologna Bash (a huge tailgate-style party that ended in 2002). It was a pretty good day," Chryst said Monday. "Now it's certainly different. But it's all good."

The 2017 Spring Game kicks off Friday at 6:30 P.M. The Badger Kids' Sports Fair opens at 5:00 at the McClain Center (adjacent to Camp Randall). Tickets are $5, and it will also be televised on the Big Ten Network.
