BELOIT, Wis. — Beloit police are asking the public for help with an investigation after a passenger in a vehicle allegedly pointed a gun at an officer while driving past him Sunday night.
In a Facebook post shared Monday, Beloit Police Department Chief Andre Sayles said a BPD office was driving south on Prairie Avenue near Switch Track Alley around 7:45 p.m. when he saw another vehicle driving slowly. As the cars passed each other, one of the passengers reportedly pointed a gun at the officer.
“Threats of violence and violence against our officers will not be tolerated,” Sayles said in the post. “This was an unprovoked act against an officer who serves the community by primarily handling animal calls and assisting with traffic control.”
Sayles said anyone who saw the incident or has information about it should contact the Rock County Dispatch Center at 608-757-2244 or Crime Stoppers at 608-362-7463.
