Dane Core 2.0 expands rental assistance services, involves more non-profits

MADISON, Wis. — Two local nonprofits are teaming up with the Tenant Resource Center to expand and expedite rental assistance services through a joint Madison city and Dane County effort.

Dane Core 2.0 is an updated version of a program launched in February that has distributed more than13 million dollars with the TRC processing more than 14 thousand applications.

Dane Core 2.0 increases services to include not just help with back rent but utilities, security deposits and forward rent, employing the help of Urban Triage and the Community Action Coalition to distribute an additional 20 million dollars in aid.

“Having a number of partners focusing on the various aspects of how we can prevent eviction and help people maintain their housing helps share the work and helps make the program more accessible,” said Dane County Housing Access and Affordability Administrator Casey Becker.

The CAC will help people in Madison, Urban Triage will support all others in Dane County, allowing the TRC to focus solely on helping people with eviction court dates.

Urban Triage Rental Support Program Manager Sharmecia Brown said they’re nonprofit is a unique position to help out.

“We know where people are coming from, we understand the need,” she said. “We know what the confusion is about, we know how to address it because we are right here in the middle of it.”

Urban Triage will open it’s rental assistance call center and provide opportunities for drop in hours to support the new services beginning Oct. 4th.

They’ll be reaching out to both tenants and landlords to educate them on the services offered.
