DUNN, Wis. — Dane County authorities are recommending a negligent homicide charge for a Fitchburg man believed to be responsible for a multi-vehicle crash that killed a Stoughton woman in September.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said Friday it has recommended 39-year-old Eric Ignarski be charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. Investigators said they believe speed was the primary cause of the crash.
The crash happened around 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 11 on U.S. Highway 51 north of Lake Kegonsa Road. According to an initial report, a 2021 Toyota Camry was driving the wrong way in a southbound lane.
A driver traveling in the southbound lane swerved to avoid the oncoming car, but another driver traveling southbound was hit head-on. That vehicle rolled multiple times before landing on its roof.
A 47-year-old Stoughton woman, Sierra Frisch, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ignarski was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries and was still hospitalized as of Friday.
The two other drivers involved in the crash were uninjured.
