FORT McCOY, Wis. — Task Force McCoy announced its vaccination campaign to administer vaccinations to Afghan refugees at the base for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella — or chickenpox — is complete.

According to a news release, more than 97% of Afghan guests at the fort have received those vaccines.

The vaccines were administered between Sept. 16 and 21.

Arriving Afghans are required to get vaccinated for measles, COVID-19, and other diseases unless a medical provider determines they are not able to receive these immunizations, the release said.

Officials did not provide data on how many refugees have received a coronavirus vaccine.

The Department of Defense is temporarily providing medical screening, transportation, lodging and general support at eight installations for Afghan special immigrant visa applicants, their families and other Afghan personnel.
