MADISON, Wis. — Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said Thursday the department’s investigation into an officer who allegedly participated in sexual activity in a department squad car is still ongoing.
Barnes, during the mayor’s bi-weekly press conference, added that the other person shown in the video is not a sex worker.
“I can tell you that I’m aware that the allegations of this incident involved an individual who is an alleged prostitute,” Barnes said. “We take the matter of human trafficking very seriously and I can assure the community that the individual involved in this incident has been contacted and that this individual is not, I repeat, is not a prostitute nor is there any evidence that the individual has a history of ever being a prostitute.”
Barnes said he doesn’t plan to release the name or any identifying characteristics about the officer in question until the investigation is done.
Police first announced the officer in question was placed on administrative leave last week after the video began circulating online.
