'My husband would still be alive if he was vaccinated': Wife urges vaccinations


MAUSTON, Wis. — In the wake of another COVID-19 death in Juneau County, public health leaders are taking the time to share a message from the man’s family: Get vaccinated.

The Juneau County Public Health Department shared a post on Facebook announcing the 49-year-old man’s death. According to the post, the man left behind four children and his wife. He had no underlying health conditions but was not vaccinated.

His wife shared a message with the department saying he’d still be around if he were.

“Everyone that is not vaccinated please get your vaccine,” she said. “My husband would still be alive if he was vaccinated.”

To date, 7,771 people in Wisconsin have died of COVID-19 complications since the start of the pandemic. Twenty-three people have died from the disease in Juneau County.

Statewide, 52.8% of residents are fully vaccinated. In Juneau County, less than half of residents are fully vaccinated.

According to data from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, those who are unvaccinated are more than 10 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than those who’ve gotten their shots. Hospitalizations are more than eight times more likely for the unvaccinated.
