PAOLI, Wis. — Two people were injured Tuesday morning when a car crashed into a power pole, eventually causing the pole to fall and hit a bystander who was trying to help the driver.

First responders were sent to State Highway 69 south of Paoli around 9:40 a.m. for what was first reported as a vehicle vs. power pole crash. The driver of a 2004 Acura was traveling southbound when he crossed the centerline and hit the pole.

A woman passing by stopped to help the man. While she was outside of her vehicle, a semi-truck driving through the area hit a wire attached to the pole causing the pole to snap and hit the woman.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the pole suffered minor injuries and the woman hit by the pole suffered possibly life-threatening injuries.

The semi-truck driver was uninjured.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with help from State Patrol inspectors to investigate the crash. Emergency crews from Belleville and Fitch-Rona also responded.

Highway 69 was fully cleared around 2 p.m.
