MADISON, Wis. — For just the second time in Wisconsin men’s hockey history, a Badger has won the Hobey Baker Award.
Cole Caufield was voted the best in NCAA Division 1 men’s ice hockey on Friday night and really there wasn’t any competition. This season the Stevens Point native lead the nation in goals (30), points (52), and power-play points (24) and was named the Big Ten Player of the Year.
On March 27, Caufield signed a three-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens to begin his professional hockey career. In two seasons at Wisconsin he tallied 49 goals, 39 assists, and 88 points in 67 games.
Former Badger Blake Geoffrion won the Hobey Baker Award in 2010.
