MADISON, Wis. — After three decades with the Wisconsin Badgers program, athletic director Barry Alvarez is retiring.
Current and former Wisconsin student-athletes are reacting to the news of Barry’s retirement on social media.
Former Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson wrote on Twitter that his dad told him when he was young that he should play for Barry Alvarez, and he did.
Former Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun also congratulated Alvarez on his retirement.
Wisconsinite and former Badger men’s basketball Sam Dekker said that Coach Alvarez “created a culture for excellence that will last for generations.”
Former Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon said Alvarez will be missed.
Former Wisconsin placekicker Taylor Mehlhaff thanked Barry for the opportunity to play at UW-Madison.
Alvarez’s last day as the Badgers athletic director will be June 30.
